I Ain't Been Shot Mum

I have been a bit quite lately but thats about to change. I have four weeks leave so I going to hit the miniatures. Goal is to finish another unit of 24 Arthurians, make a start on some 15mm New Kingdom Egyptians, and to paint another 10 WWI Diggers. Listening to the Meeples and Miniatures podcast the other week has brought my attention to I Ain't Been Shot Mum from Too Fat Lardies. The author Richard Clarke talked the rules up and sold them to me. A simple visit to the Too Fat Lardies website and $14.00 and a minute later I owned my first ever PDF rule book. Even if the rules turn out to suck thats not a bad price to find out. Another holiday objective is to hit the streets and run 5km a day, do some swimming and weights. I will report back the fattest loser results in 4 weeks.

Memoir 44 Mediterranean Theatre

My latest acquisition is the Mediterranean expansion pack for Memoir 44. I decided to buy this after hearing a review on the Meeples and Miniatures podcast. Neil described the British infantry as horrible, and I have to agree. The figures are in 8th Army desert uniform but it appears they are wearing American helmets. It's a bit poor but I guess the game is aimed at the general boardgame market. Fans of WWII history will also notice a horrible sight on the picture above. Hint AT weapon. Anyway, the rest of the pack looks good. Crusader tanks and 25pdrs are really well sculpted. Heaps of new desert terrain pieces and medals etc. New desert scenarios. I am looking forward to having a game. And at last, I have British figures to use with the original Memoir 44. It was just plain wrong using American Infantry in British scenarios.

This Week in Wargaming

I just finished listening to the "This Week in Wargaming" roundtable 1 show. I do like this show but I really think it should be renamed "This Week in WarHammer". This was highlighted when big Troy read out an email from Neil from the "Meeples and Miniatures" podcast. Neil took exception, and rightly so, to comments made by big Troy that 40K was the only game in town if you wanted to play sci-fi 28mm tank battles. Neil pointed out other game systems and models. Big Troy then asked the roundtable if they had heard of said games and models. Surprise, surprise, the roundtable are GW fanboys and of course they had not heard of said items. GW is wargaming. Nothing else is out there. That's equal to asking a bunch of yank Grid Iron fans, have you heard of Rugby? Most Yanks will go, whats that? Never heard of it, can't get a game of it around here. I'm not playing it. If they opened their eyes they would proably find a local Rugby club down the street. Message to roundtable. Pull your heads out of GW's arse and start googling. It's a big world and GW is just a small part of it.

TWIW weekly show is superb but get some variety on roundtable or run the risk of being know as TWIGW.
